EARTH SAVERS – July 2023

Jody Brady, Author

A CALL TO ACTION

Welcome to our EARTH SAVERS webpage. AADC is committed to supporting environmental awareness. Each month author Jody Brady gives us information and tips on how to be more friendly to the environment. Your comments and tips are welcome. Scroll down if you would like to comment. Comments are curated and may not appear immediately.

Staying Informed

This month’s Earth Savers presents a selection of excellent sources for staying informed about the environment. It includes podcasts, YouTubes, and Streaming Series.

Science Friday Podcast

You may have listened to Science Friday on National Public Radio. This great show is also available as a podcast. Podcasts are mostly free. Just download a podcast app such as Google Podcast. A recent Science Friday Podcast was about how ocean temperatures have spiked just this month, to the highest temperatures ever recorded. Use your App to bring up Science Friday and you will see this story on June 16. Podcasts are a great way to stay informed.

PBS Nova Series is on YouTube

You can watch Nova on YouTube, or just listen while you do chores around the house. One recent show was entitled “Weathering the Future.” It deals with how we are working to prevent extreme weather conditions. Just go to YouTube and search for the title.
It comes up right away.

PBS The Nature Show also on YouTube

Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are of critical importance. Their survival affects our planet, especially our crops and our food supplies. Many of nature’s pollinators are suffering and actually facing extinction. We all need to learn what we can do to help them survive and thrive.

PBS’s Nature Show is on YouTube. Just go to YouTube and type in “Pollinators.” It comes right up.

Update:
Not Just Grannies, All Ages Care! Including Montana Youth

Last month, we congratulated the Grannies of Switzerland for standing up for our environmental rights by suing their government for its bad climate policies. In fact, the Grannies are not the only group willing to fight to clean up the world’s environment.

Young people in Montana are suing their state government. The Montana Constitution guarantees a “clean and healthful environment” to all residents. These pivotal words, “clean and healthful environment,” are also used a second time in the Montana Bill of Rights.  A group of Montana teens contend that they are being denied this right by the state’s reliance on fossil fuels that pollute the environment.

A Shopping Tip

When you are shopping, try to buy products that say on the label “Made with 100% Renewable Energy – Zero Waste to Landfill.”  What does this mean? It means that 99% of the waste from the product will not go to a landfill because that waste will be reused, recycled, composted, or fed to animals.
