The Roosevelt-Kennedy Dinner, held on June 10, in Sun City Roseville’s Timber Ballroom, was a fun and informative gathering of Placer County Democrats. I was happy to be there, as the event had sold out. It felt wonderful to be in a large group of enlightened and like-minded Democrats. There was a congenial buzz of conversation as the event got started.
A number of Auburn Area Democratic Club members had arrived two hours early to help setup for the event. These volunteers set flower arrangements on the many dining tables, hung up signage where it was needed, and organized all the fifty or so bottles of wine that were given out during the wine pull event. Some of those bottles of wine cost over $100 a bottle, so the wine pull was an exciting event.
Kathleen Crawford, Chair of Placer County Democrats, opened the event, welcoming us all and reminding us of what important times these are for us. Now more than ever, Democrats must unite to save our democracy. Keynote speaker Katie Porter and Guest Speaker Barbara Lee were both inspiring. Katie spoke about the important issues in the upcoming election, and Barbara shared stories about her becoming the first cheerleader in her high school who was a person of color. A number of individuals received awards for service above and beyond.
The food was delicious, and the conversation was most interesting. It was a pleasure to relax socially with these same people with whom I am usually working hard: planning, marching, canvassing, emailing, postcarding: everything we can do to help win the upcoming 2024 election!
I was very proud to be at the event.
